Post ideas on how to improve Google Wave

Everyone you talk too (or at least everyone I talk too) has an opinion on what Google needs to do to improve the extremely popular and…dare I say…overhyped Google Wave. [Side Note Here: I say overhyped because all these predictions about Google Wave being an email, Facebook, Twitter, Sharepoint, on and on Killer is completely over the top. Thus...overhyped. Relax folks, it is what it is -  A really good collaboration tool with a big upside!]

But, all that aside. Google really does want to hear your feedback. In fact they have set up a special page to solicit that feedback called Product Ideas for Google Wave.

At the page they say:

Would your Google Wave experience be improved with just one more feature? Two? Three?

We’d really like to hear about those features and other ideas! Use this Product Ideas page to tell us what you would like to see added to Google Wave. Add your own suggestions, or vote on other people’s.

We’re reading along and may check in from time to time. Your input will influence our priorities, but keep in mind that we have our own plans and not all ideas here will be implemented. You can get started by clicking the links below.

At the writing of this post they have received 2,275 ideas. Now I know that there are a lot more ideas and folks with ideas out there then that. So what are you waiting for. Go to the site (Product Ideas for Google Wave) and submit what you have blogging about to the blogesphere, pontificating about to your friends or colleagues or tweeting about to the twiterverse. You may get to say….That was my idea!

We would love to hear what your idea was here too…so write a comment on what your suggestion is to Google. Then we will absolutely have proof that it was your idea from the beginning. This post would be great to track a year from now to see who got their ideas in lights!

Really interesting. I do like they have a way to vote for the ideas, otherwhice it would not be possible to find the best ideas.

the best thing for google wave is if you talked about it on google wave. it needs a larger user base to truly shine, as well as app development and ui improvement. right now it’s a prototype, and very early, so features are still in the works. I dislike that settings and profile options are treated as waves too. I would rather they were treated similarly to all google pages.

I got my wave invite – logged in and freaked to see the creepy semi-stalker ex co worker on my wave contact list. I deleted him from my contacts. But based on what others have related I could still be in his contact list if he’s got me in his contacts even though I deleted him from mine. And evidently he can see if I’m logged in even though I’ve deleted him from my contacts.

“If a Wave user is online, Wave adds a small green dot to the bottom right corner of that person’s icon anywhere it appears in the Wave client—from the Contacts panel and Search panel to open waves. If you see a green dot on a contact’s icon, they’ll see your ping straightaway.”

There needs to be privacy and blocking settings for wave – I want to control who can see me, and have some default controls. Otherwise this can be another form of Facebook stalking. My FB privacy settings are cranked down tight.

This is bad, bad, bad. That needs to be addressed like it is in IM clients with an invisible mode and a block function. Otherwise the only way to get away from the stalker types is to get a new google account/email address.

Hi Guys,
I am kind of excited to use Google wave. It looks great! I have one suggestion though.
It would be great if the gadgets are managed with in the wave, so that when ever I create a new wave, I don’t have to enter the xml url.
Some thing like Add to favorite gadgets. Then we should be able to select the favorite gadget when the add gadget button is clicked.
That’s the only suggestion I have for today. I’ll post few more if I find any tomorrow.

It would be great to group Contacts, for example:
Aravind
Bloggy
Rosie
Sveta
XYZ
ABC
Sergey
TTB

Now I want to be able to separate friends from bots, I remember what are bots and who are friends.

I would think, grouping is a best option that we could have or maybe something similar.

That is a fantastic idea. We should be able to group our contacts somehow. Check out this post ref creating groups for you Google Wave contacts – http://www.masteringwave.com/2009/11/using-groups-in-google-wave/
