The other day I wrote about the Google Wave Yellow Pages. Well, following a similar theme I want to introduce you to a Wave you may or may not have come across the WaveStore – Buy, Sell, or Trade your Stuff! This Wave was started by Inigmatus and he gives these instructions to wannabe barterers:
Getting started is easy:
If you want to make a Buy listing:
Make a public wave of the item you wish to buy, then add “buywave” to your list of tags.
If you want to Sell listing:
Make a public wave of the item you wish to sell, then add “sellwave” to your list of tags.
If you want to Trade listing:
Make a public wave of the items you wish to trade, then add “tradewave” to your list of tags.
Then come and reply to this wave with a wavelet to your wave! That’s it!
Unfortunately there has been very little activity at the WaveStore to date. But just like the traffic we generated for the Google Wave Yellow Pages I’m hoping we might be able to give the WaveStore a little kickstart.
The important aspect of both the Google Wave Yellow Pages and the WaveStore is that you have to link your business or product you want to sell, buy or trade to another Wave that you have created. Don’t give them links to other webpages, that really goes against the whole idea of what this is meant to be.
So “Shiny Wavers” if you want to try barter on Google Wave try out the WaveStore. However, do pay attention to the disclaimer:
WaveStore Terms: Advertisers handle all responsibility for their listing, and the transaction with their client. Since this is a public wave without any access controls at this time, we assume absolutely no liability for any listing posted to this index. We ask the community as a whole to be collectively vigilant against illegal advertisements and to remove them from this index at their discretion.
Thus, make sure you take that disclaimer to heart and be very careful about how you conduct business at the WaveStore. In fact, if I were buying, selling or trading I think I would only use my Wave to promote and describe my product. But when it came time to do the transaction I would maybe point folks to another site that actually has the commerce part all set up. Thus, this Wave just acts as another avenue to advertise, but the actually transaction would take place on a trusted site with trusted security architecture already set-up. Something that is currently not available in Wave.
However, I like this Wave and think it will get folks thinking about how this could truly be implemented just using Google Wave.
