Wikipedia defines the “Yellow Pages” as
referring to a telephone directory of businesses, categorized according to the product or service provided. As the name suggests, such directories were originally printed on yellow paper, as opposed to white pages for non-commercial listings. The traditional term Yellow Pages is now also applied to online directories of businesses.
Now, it seems, the term Yellow Pages has reached Google Wave. Chad Lupkes started a Wave titled Google Wave Yellow Pages. He has the following introduction on his Wave:
Are you in business? Add a link to your business wave below, and let’s build a set of Yellow Pages. You can help us better find your business if you tag your business wave with businesswave and wyp (Wave Yellow Pages). Please leave your business descriptions to one sentence, and use your own wave to expand them!
So far the Google Wave Yellow Pages is not a long list. Chad currently has six (6) Business Waves that have linked to the Google Wave Yellow Pages. They are as follows:
Directories
- ContentWave (TM) – A Wave Blog – a social networking consulting business.
- WaveStore – Buy, Sell or Trade your Stuff! – A wave index for classified ads on the wavenet using a simple tagging methodology to enable ecommerce on Wave.
Marketing Strategy and Product Design
- Shore Communications Inc. – Market research and strategic advisory services and consulting for companies in enterprise and media content markets.
Web Development
- Seattle Webcrafters Public Wave – A website design and social networking consulting business.
- Green Street Productions – A web development company consulting businesses on search engine optimization, search engine marketing and social media
Facebook Games
Bishitos – Very cool different Social Game, Rise Your little Bishitos and feed them, compete, buy upgrades and more!
It is still very early in Google Wave development and general use by the public is far from done deal. However, you got to love the spirit of this Wave. As Google Wave becomes more and more popular and widely used so will the Google Wave Yellow Pages.
I can see a real future for this Wave. If you need to talk with a company and you go the Google Wave Yellow Pages, you link to the Businesses Wave and get the Service Support rep(s) to help you either buy their product or provide you service support (no service support robots! Please!). The upside for this Wave is “through the roof” and it opens up a number of interesting use cases for how Google Wave will evolve and could be used.
Our friend Chad could be sitting on a great idea and I wish him all the success in the world with this Wave. What do you think, will the Google Wave Yellow Pages be a success?
